In-House Equipment

InnovoGeo Engineering: Bringing Advanced Geotechnical Solutions to Virginia and Beyond!

At InnovoGeo Engineering, we are committed to delivering innovative, client-focused civil and geotechnical engineering solutions that drive value.  One of the ways we achieve this is through our cutting-edge in-house equipment, which enables us to provide high-quality, data-driven insights for even the most complex projects.  We believe that better data makes for better decisions - especially below the surface. That’s why we’ve invested in the Pagani TG 63-150, a versatile geotechnical investigation rig that combines Seismic Cone Penetration Testing (SCPTu), Dynamic Probing (DP) and other in-situ testing and sampling capabilities in one compact, highly mobile platform that reduces site disturbance compared to larger rigs.

 Our In-House Equipment Capabilities Include:

Dynamic Cone Penetration (DCP) Testing – Using the Vertek SmartDCP, provides quantitative evaluation of shallow soil strength for foundation and pavement design.

Pagani TG 63-150 limited-access tracked rig with:

  • Seismic Cone Penetration Testing (SCPTu) – Provides real-time high-resolution profiling of subsurface stratigraphy, tip resistance, sleeve friction, and pore pressure - ideal for soft soil environments and liquefaction assessments.  Equipped with seismic compression and shear wave measurement capabilities.

  • Dynamic Probing Super Heavy (DPSH) Testing – While not common in the US, DPSH is widely used in ground investigations worldwide, and is a relatively quick and inexpensive method for establishing the depth to a rock surface or for providing rough ground profiling to help establish boundaries between softer and harder subsurface layers.  DPSH utilizes the same hammer weight, drop height, and probe diameter as Standard Penetration Testing (SPT) split spoon sampler - providing a semi-qualitative comparative analysis in tougher soils or where static in-situ penetration testing (like CPT) becomes impractical.  Provides a continuous blow count record with depth, with no soil sampling.

  • Standard Penetration Testing (SPT) – A geotechnical industry standard, made more efficient with our tracked rig’s accessibility.  While the Pagani TG 63-150 is not intended to be a "workhorse" SPT rig, it can perform this test method at discrete points, for comparison against other test methods used at a site or location.

  • Vertek 10cm² SCPTu cones - with integrated triaxial geophones for seismic shear wave and compression testing, paired with Vertek's newest Revo data acquisition system and a ruggedized Windows laptop.

  • Various other soil sampling capabilities, depending on actual subsurface conditions encountered

  • Ability to install a variety of instrumentation and monitoring devices

Bentley OpenGround – a secure, cloud-based geotechnical information management solution designed to streamline data collection, management, analysis, reporting, and sharing.  OpenGround supports collaboration within projects by providing a platform where teams can access and manage geotechnical data across different stages of the project lifecycle. It integrates with internal systems and third-party applications through APIs, enhancing efficiency and future-proofing ground investigation data.

Custom-Built and Outfitted 4x4 Limited-Access Box Truck – Ensuring we can reach even the most challenging project sites.

Skydio 2+ Drone – Delivering high-resolution aerial imagery for site assessments and monitoring.

How This Adds Value to Our Clients:

🔸 Greater Accessibility – Our wireless remote-operated tracked rig and 4x4 setup allow us to navigate confined and remote sites with ease.

🔸 Higher Efficiency – We can perform multiple geotechnical tests in one mobilization, reducing project delays.  SCPTu provides a continuous record of data, often multiple times faster than conventional drilling and sampling. This means less time in the field, and quicker turnaround times for your projects.

🔸 Accurate Seismic Site Classification – With the 2024 IBC updates, seismic site classifications are now more critical than ever.  Our SCPTu testing allows for precise measurement of shear wave velocity, providing more accurate site classification and reduced project costs.

🔸 Cost-Effective – By minimizing the need for subcontractors, we can offer more competitive pricing while maintaining full control over quality and scheduling.  Of course, where projects require investigation methods beyond our in-house capabilities, we have relationships with subcontract drillers who can provide those capabilities.

🔸 Data-Driven Insights – Advanced testing methods provide reliable, actionable geotechnical data to mitigate risk and optimize design decisions.

At InnovoGeo, we believe that investing in state-of-the-art technology and efficient project execution is key to delivering exceptional results.  Whether you need geotechnical testing for foundation design, slope stability, pavement evaluation, or forensic investigations, we've got you covered!

Many more investments in cutting-edge equipment and capabilities will be coming soon.  We look forward to collaborating with you on your next project!
